So many of the clients at Manchester Massage come to us for a deep tissue massage and we have a number of masseuses who have taken a deep tissue massage course to fully understand the best techniques. Here we are in the realms of not simply a relaxing massage, even one that is designed to ease stress perhaps with aromatherapy oils, but a massage that finds those deep seated knots and lesions in the back, neck and shoulders and sometimes in the legs too, which are the cause of so many aches and pains suffered daily.
The originating causes for these conditions may be many. A sports injury or a work related issue where the client is building up tightness and tension, deeper down in the muscular layer. In some cases If pain is from a medical source, it may even alleviate the symptoms of some diseases such as arthritis or fibromyalgia, but it is always wise, in fact a requirement by the salon, to align this treatment with medical advice from your GP or consultant.
Of course, as with any treatment there can potentially be side effects in a small number of cases. Some clientsmay experience a degree of discomfort during the actual time that they are receiving their deep tissue massage, this is most often the case wherethe therapist targets problem areas. This is why it is essential to talk to the practitioner at the beginning and especially throughout the treatment if a massage becomes too painful. We all have different tolerance levels of pain and so it is the time to speak up if it gets to be too much for you! If you feel that it would be better to have two sessions of less intensity where you have time to acclimatise yourself to the pressure, rather than one session that will leave you sore, then that should be the way forward for you. Bruising can occur in a small percentage of people, especially if they are taking pain killers or if there are hormonal changes in the body at that time.
Your deep tissue massage will target deep areas of the musculature, whilst other massage techniques focus largely on superficial areas of the body with considerably less pressure. The therapist who has studied deep tissue massage knows that it is important toinitially warm up the muscles with a lighter pressure, before intensifying the pressure and massaging the areas requiring treatment with slow deep strokes. To gain maximum pressure it is sometimes necessary to apply this deep pressure by using not only the hands, but also the arms and elbows. The use of these movements will release muscles and connectivetissues which had tensed and contracted.
A deep tissue massage performed by one of the qualified and experienced therapists at this Northern Quarter massage centrewill reach the deeper layers of muscle and soft tissue.Releasing the muscle knots, (myofascial trigger points), within the muscle fibre will loosen and relieve them and give the sought afterpain relief. Some people may require ongoing treatments to see lasting improvements in areas where there is deep muscle tension or injury. But many find that relief is immediate, and they can look forward to resuming their normal lifestyle which may have been on hold and they nearly always find better sleep patterns are established.
